Pool of Light

The pool of light from a lamp covers a limited area.  It is not a spotlight that brightens a huge expanse.  When you actually pay attention to what this quote says (and the Scripture that it references Ps. 119:105), the picture becomes even narrower.  (It is just like Christ to narrow our way!  Matt. 7:13-14)  “He promises a lamp unto our feet…”  How long is a stride of the feet?  A foot or two depending on the individual.  The measure is not large at all.  It is enough to get us to the next step!  The light is used to get us where we need to be.  We are kept in the present if we focus on the light, and we avoid the darkness of the past and uncertainty of the future.  Christ Jesus seeks to ease our anxiety if we will but listen to Him.
