A Meal Shared

“He (Jesus) invited Peter to breakfast.  Jesus prepared a meal.”  Max Lucado  Traveling Light

A meal is shared in order to have an intimate relationship.  It is used to get to know each other better and to grow closer.  Well, doesn’t Peter already know Peter?  This invite occurs post-Resurrection.  Peter has denied Christ Jesus three times.  He probably feels that a sea separates himself from Christ.  And, it does.  “When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea.”  John 21:7B  While roughly one hundred yards separates Peter from Jesus on the shore, the distance COULD seem like a mile.  The distance is crossed quickly by Peter.  And by inviting Peter to the dinner “table,” Christ says, “Our relationship is not over!”  Jesus affirms Peter to combat the betrayal that Peter feels in his heart.  Christ brought peace to the turbulent storm in Peter’s heart.
