The Wrong Kind of Practice

“envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”  Galatians 5:21

“practice such things”

When you want to be good at something, you usually invest time into it.  Playing the guitar, basketball, or crocheting all requires practice time to get better and more proficient at it.  To me, the word “practice” just says so much in this verse.  Individual incidents are not happening.  Practice means that it is becoming a habit or a permanent part in your life.  If someone is doing this, I must question:  where is the Holy Spirit?  Have you ignored Him?  Pushed Him out?  Was He ever there?  To turn your back on the ways of God and embrace the ways of the flesh leads to one end:  “that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

P.S.  Apostasy is very much an option (though a very bad one!).  Look at Dan, one of the tribes of Israel.
