Psalm 27:14
"Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD." Psalm 27:14
Wait.....a word that is not well received by mankind. The practice of it is even less evident. We are a "Hurry Up-Go Go Go" type nation. Everything is rush rush-gotta get it now! Life has got us in it's grip. We are always afraid that we are going to miss out on something. Life is fast paced like the tango. The tango does not last forever though. Breaks are needed, even required. Moments of rest. This is how we recuperate our strength. It is how we get ready for the next round.
We must learn to incorporate waiting into our lives. Slow down and allow a work to be done in us. I can't think of a single doctor who can operate on a patient while he is running around the operating room! Now, God probably could if He wanted to, but I think he would prefer us to slow down. Patience needs to be developed. It is during this slowing down process that we need to meditate. Offer up the weaknesses and insecurities that we have recognized in our lives. Petition the Lord to amend the wrongs that have been done to us and the wrongs we have done to ourselves. We should pay more heed to the Psalms; how David begged God for changes, protection, and examination. God knows all our faults; he just wants us to be man/woman enough to humble ourselves and ask for the change.
Humbleness is not the only thing required. "Good courage" is required. Courage is required to ask God to fix the faults within us. It is also required to open up to friends and family. Vulnerable to their eyes in asking for their prayer cover. The louder the voice, then hopefully and prayerfully the shorter the wait. Our souls must be laid bare at times in our lives. They cannot be kept closed up and secured away. We must be willing to be vulnerable. Rely on God, and not our own strength. He will impart his strength unto our heart. This is what the waiting process is all about. The girding up of our hearts against the wickedness of the world. We do not have sufficient strength of our own. Reliance upon the alliance with God.
The point is driven home yet again in the final line of the verse. Wait! Have patience and faith in God. Respect him by taking a period of waiting in your life. Do not deviate. Faithfulness to Him will reflect faithfulness back to us. He will work on the troubled parts of our soul. Its similar to driving in Atlanta. We are accustomed to driving in the hammer-down(fast) lane. The gas pedal is grinding into the floor board. Ease off and drift over to the right hand lane. Do not follow the crowd. Be a good rebel for once. Be a rebel for God. The destination will not change, but with God's help we will change.
